The M20 Handbag Collection debuts from designer and owner Jenny Cheng-Chapman, whose philosophy is personal: “Designing and offering exciting handbags that speak emotionally to people should have the same effect as hearing a great song—it gives you goosebumps. Realizing my dream of edgy cool, unique, urban designs is the reason M20 was born.” Jenny fearlessly entered into the industry at a very young age and is an accomplished expert in the craft. Having launched a successful handbag collection in Hong Kong at 20, she is well-versed in every aspect from design to production, logistics to planning. Worldly and well travelled, Jenny then became interested in learning the international market, and decided to move to and study in the USA, where she appreciated the beautiful lifestyle and opportunities of America. With her entrepreneurial spirit and a strong relationship with a great factory, Jenny opened her New York studio to work with international designers who appreciated artisan craftsmanship and respected her technical expertise; Soon, her reputation as the factory-and-designer liaison was born. Jenny mentors many first-time designers, who inspire her and are passionate about a career in fashion. One of her many novices is Nancy Phan, who began her career in commercial development as a trade attaché for the French Trade Office, promoting the work of French artisans and designers in the U.S. Inspired by the artists and designers with whom she worked, Nancy enrolled in FIT to try her hand at design. Nancy was afforded the opportunity to work under Jenny’s tutelage, collaborating with her to design the M20 Collection, named for city bus that stops in front of her Soho design studio. The M20 Collection embodies the spirit of New York City’s unique and edgy downtown sophistication with an inspiration that yields the styles that are right for the season, ever-evolving and move with the flow of New York.
